TEARA is a group of amateurs dedicated to exploring the many
aspects of amateur radio. Many of our members
participate in ARES or other public service communications,
and we, along with the Smithchart Amateur Radio Society, have
one of the most active VE Teams in North Carolina.
TEARA was formed on January 10th of 1989, when a group of 12
Northern Johnston County Amateurs got together and decided to
form a club. Many were already members of other organizations,
but were interested in assembling a technically oriented club
to interest amateurs in Johnston County and the surrounding
areas. So TEARA was born.
In March of 1990, TEARA was formally incorporated as a non-profit organization and issued an exemption status, and we've been going strong ever since.
Or maybe not so strong... In January of 2015, the TEARA
membership decided that we needed to take the club into a
semi-inactive mode. Our VE Team (TEARA-SCARS) remains
very much active, and we have not disbanded. However, as
explained on our home page, we are meeting once per quarter,
but not according to any published schedule. We invite
you to join us for our world famous quarterly (more or less)
dinner meetings, and we will be happy to let you know when our
next gathering will be on request.
